My gg grandad was a 'navvy' on the canal and lived not far from the Red Lion bridge (that's what we still call it even though the pub's not called that now), he was a permanent employee, and a local man from Scarisbrick. I've also got a photo of my g grandad sat on this bridge, probably after visiting the Red Lion for a drink! This is where the boats used to tie up and folk would transfer to a horse carriage to go to Southport back in the 1800s.
