No, it's in the right place. The Blue Elephant used to be called the Red Lion, it's on Southport Road in Scarisbrick, over the canal from the new marina - I went in there many times as a child - they had a Turkish chef who was a family friend, he made fantastic chips!

Indeed that is the slipway that belongs to the Mersey Motor Boat Club, the oldest club on the Leeds-Liverpool canal, at their Scarisbrick moorings, these are to the left, the newish marina is to the right on the opposite side just under the road bridge.

It is indeed the late Red Lion/Blue Elephant renamed Elephant and now expensive Indian Restaurant. They do excellant meals, but I do miss the traditional English pub. There is also a very good restaurant at the nearby newly created Marina. Pity the Marina entrance is so narrow though. I looked forward to canoeing in the Marina but "No dinghies or Canoes allowed"

As a teenager, I helped to excavate the slipway. My father had a boat called "Mary" at these moorings. I remember in late fifties/early sixties the manager of the Red Lion was a chap called Anderson.

Is the slipway still in use?
