Approx 200 yds to the right of this picture is Burnley Central train station, reached by foot through a small park. The stone structure you see in the foreground was built to carry the mineral railway that linked the train station(then called Bank Top) to Bank Hall Collery, once the towns biggest pit. The mineral railway spanned the canal then went underground under Colne rd to re-surface at the mine. It's a little known fact, but you can walk from here to west yorkshire without crossing a single road.
