14th September 2008 Burscough to Maghull Our penultimate walk from Burscough to Maghull in Liverpool has been published.
Another great day out and that little bit further towards completing our mini-adventure. After this walk, we have one more 12-miler to go, I can't believe we've stuck at it but I'm really pleased that we have!

Hi Brian, nice to see another set of interesting shots on the canal.Shame about the damage to some of the mileposts. In the Barrowford area the Leeds mileage is transposed from the LHS to RHS of the milepost and remains so all the way to Lpool. Do you know any reason for this? Regards Keith.

Another interesting set of photos of your journey Brian, your lad will be able look back on this walk in years to come and always rememember that it was something he achieved with his dad.
I saw the boat Ribble near to the Water Edge pub a few weeks ago with four old men on board they said they had come from Burscough I took a photo of the boat and from the photo I noticed that it said it was a Fly Boat.
And I still dont know why its called a Fly Boat.

Thanks for the comments.
Keith, I read somewhere although I can't remember where that many mileposts have been restored. Whoever did the job made a mistake by swapping the distances around.
Mick, 'fly-boats' were the express boats of the canal, running non-stop day and night to deliver perishable goods.

I noticed the boat called Ribble near Aintree cruising North . It looked every bit like a typical L&L boat. Anyone out there know if Ribble is fitted with a Widdop engine ? Regards Keith.
