16th February 2009 New comments Since I opened up the site to allow comments against photos quite a few have been made.
This is great, I should have done it earlier.
In particular, thanks to Mark who has helped with his local knowledge of the Nelson to Burnley stretch.
If you can help with anything from your local area, please leave a comment. This will hopefully provide an invaluable resource to future walkers.
Thanks.

Brian
Note that your pics at Rufford only show the St Mary's Marina and not the Fettlers Wharf Marina opposite( which is the earlier of the two) Have a couple of panoramic shots of this if you would like me to forward them - just to complete your excellent journey through - good cafe at that one too!

I would like to report on the action being taken to clean up the Sefton stretch of the Leeds & Liverpool canal at Bootle & Litherland.
I am David Flynn and I chair the Pride of Sefton Narrowboat committee.
We are deeply ashamed of the state of the canal on this stretch and had a meeting with Sefton councils Planners on 8th June to request the council to enter into discussions with BW to take immediate action to do the work which should have been done well before the new link to the Albert dock was opened !
We as regular users of this canal appealed to Bw prior to the opening of the link to clean it up but sadly to no avail !
I would like to apologise on behalf of the residents of Bootle & Litherland to all our boating visitors (who are very welcome and also say you are a pleasure for us all to behold ) about the appalling state of this length of the canal and we hope it will not sour your opinion of your visit to our great city and it's magnificent builings & culture.
It is amazing that after spending £22,000,000 that they could't afford a relatively modest sum to prepare the "gateway stretch" into the link?
We would be however very appreciative if you can assist us by complaining to BW about this problem and perhaps if enough of us take action then they will probably listen to us and sort it out!
Many thanks and a big welcome to Liverpool to you all and please come again soon, wishing a safe and enjoyable journey to you all.
Dave Flynn, chair of the Pride of Sefton narrowboat committee.

As part of its bid to make its neighbourhoods cleaner, greener and safer, social landlord Riverside took part in a canal cleanup and towpath tidy in Litherland.
In partnership with Litherland and Ford Area Committee, staff and tenants from Riverside teamed up with British Waterways and Liverpool City Council to collect 25 sacks of rubbish from the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. Items retrieved ranged from beer cans and an old boot to a bus stop sign and a hula hoop.
The 12 volunteers covered a mile and a half stretch on foot while British Waterway’s Water Witch covered the same area in the water.
Riverside Community Engagement Officer Kay Davies said: “Not only is fly-tipping unsightly but it can also be harmful to wildlife. It’s such a shame that people use the canal as a dumping ground because once we had cleared the area we could see just how nice it could be if people learn to respect the environment and take pride in the area.”
